List of the places you will visit
Talas Yaman Dede Mosque (Panaya Greek Church) The building is located on Karabey Street. The church, which was built by Metropolitan Ionnis during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamit in 1886, was converted into a mosque and opened for worship in 1925, when its ownership was transferred after the Greek citizens left Talas through population exchange. The Panaya Church, constructed in 1886 in the Tablakaya District of Talas, Kayseri, was originally a Greek Orthodox church. However, in 1925, after the local Greek population was displaced, the church was transformed into a mosque and named Yaman Dede Mosque. The conversion included the addition of a mihrab and pulpit, which now face south. Panaya Church (Yaman Dede Mosque) The mosque's architecture is captivating, with a magnificent staircase leading up to it from below. The surrounding area also boasts of several historical structures built by the Greeks in ancient times. Today, the mosque's terrace is lined with shops, serving as cultural centers for the community.
Talas Underground City (Ali Mountain Underground City): It is located on the slope rising towards Mount Ali. The history of the city dates back to the 3rd century AD. Sarnıç Underground City, which has been used since that date and covers a large area, was opened to visitors in 2010. Visitors have the opportunity to witness the past by exploring this historical and impressive underground city. Ali Mountain Underground City has an important position as it is the only cistern underground city in the region. Thanks to this feature, it attracts attention and is visited by many people every year. It is said that the cistern in the city dates back to the Byzantine Period, approximately 1300 years ago. This is an element that increases the historical and cultural value of Ali Mountain Underground City. By exploring this historical building, visitors can closely see the traces of the Byzantine Period and experience the atmosphere of the past.
kayseri Talas Enüdurlük Church: It is located in Kayseri province, Talas district, Endürlük neighborhood. It is a church that has been destroyed in places, is in need of repair, and is not used. Date: It was built between 1831-1835. Plan and architectural features: The church, located in the Endürlük neighborhood of Talas, is a Turkish Orthodox church that has survived to the present day with its inscription. The church is surrounded by high walls. The church, built on a plain, has a rectangular plan in the east-west direction. The main walls of the building are surrounded by semicircular and flat profile molding belts at the eaves. In the general appearance of the building, the triangular pediments crowning the facades attract attention. Halfway up the north and south facades of the building, there are porticoes that are extensions of the narthex in the west. There are 12 window openings arranged one above the other on the north façade. While the lower windows are rectangular in shape with round arches and triangular pediments, the upper windows are rectangular in shape and plain. The eastern facade of the building differs from the other facades with the semicircular projections of the aspis. There are two window openings in the middle apse and one in the side apses. While the windows in the main apse are rectangular in shape and have a triangular pediment, those in the side apse are rectangular in shape, with round arches and no pediment.
Talas Armenian, Greek Protestant School and Church, Kayseri: There are those who date the building, which does not have a historical inscription, to 1892, based on various sources. The exterior dimensions of the building, built in the north-south direction, are 7.75×13.10 m. The north wall of the building is crooked from the inside. The building is entered through a door placed on the south facade. The landing in front of this door is accessed by a seven-step staircase. It is entered by passing through a portico with a two-storey porch arranged like a bell tower in front of the door. The absence of any niche reminiscent of an apse on the eastern façade of the building, which was registered as a church by the Kayseri Preservation Board, reminds us that the building may have been a missionary school.
Talas Harman Mosque (Church Mosque) in Kayseri: Harman Mosque, located in the Talas district of Kayseri, was repaired in 1860 during the reign of Sultan Abdülmecit, according to its inscription. The exact construction date of the mosque is not known. It is said that it was previously built on a church. On the entrance door there is a five-line talik inscription in gold gilt on a purple background. There is the signature of Sultan Abdülmecid on this inscription. The mosque has a rectangular plan in the north-south direction and is made of cut stone. During the restoration work of the three-domed narthex in front of the mosque by the General Directorate of Foundations, the domes were removed and covered with a concrete ceiling. The narthex has a round arch with four columns. The place of worship is covered with a central dome. There is a round-bodied single balconied minaret on a quadrangular base next to the mosque, and it has been renovated recently.
Kayseri Talas Han Mosque (Church): This structure, located on Erhan Street in Talas district, Kayseri center, dates back to the 13th century. It is a Seljuk work of the 19th century. In 1899, II. It was built by Derviş Efendi as a two-storey building during the reign of Abdulhamid. The mosque is entered through a door with a triangular pediment and a flat lintel. The prayer hall, which has a square plan, is covered with a dome supported by pointed arches. The dome drum was kept high and 12 round-arched windows were opened in the drum. The lower floor of the mosque, decorated in Baroque style, was used as a Primary School. The inn next to the mosque was demolished. Once upon a time, the city of Kayseri was within walls. This inn was built to accommodate latecomers and travelers when the city gates were closed at night. Over time, when there was no need for an inn, this building was converted into a mosque and opened for worship. Since there is no inscription, we do not know the date when it was converted into an inn. For this reason, the name of the mosque was given as Han Mosque. The interior and exterior of the building were built entirely of local yellowish cut stones. After it was converted into a mosque, a minaret and mihrab were added. Its current doors were opened later. The mosque, which was repaired twice in 1273 and 1314, was used as an interim warehouse and was reopened for worship in 1950.
Historyin The Rocks; Talas Tol Church and Art gallery: The Adventure of the Meeting of Generations continues with History in the Rocks: Talas Tol Church. Tol Church, located in the Talas district of Kayseri, was built in the early Byzantine periods during IV. It was made as a rock carving in the 5th century. While the entrance of the church consists of three sections with pointed arches and three apses, the interior is in the form of a large-volume corridor with pointed arches called tol. The interior consists of four sections of different sizes and the transition between spaces is provided through arched doors. Tol Church, one of the oldest religious buildings in the Cappadocia region, was opened to visitors after the restoration works completed by Talas Municipality in 2013. We see the history that permeates nature, admire it, and pass it on to future generations and different cultures. Listen to the history relived in the words of Erciyes College students as they tell it!
